Frequently asked questions
What do you charge for this service?
My fixed price is £100 per hour for any service. The potential amount of hours required would be discussed at the initial free telephone consultation.
What happens at the first appointment?
I like to see the whole family together. This would either be at home, or in a room at your GP's practice (which I would organise for you).
Home visits may last up to an hour and a half, whereas practice appointments would be 45-50 minutes.
When will you deliver the therapeutic plan?
Following the initial meeting with you and the family, I will email you a therapeutic plan for your consideration, along with my invoice.
Where would you see my child?
I can visit your child at nursery, school or home. The settings will be agreed at the initial consultation.
This could be with other family members, or at the general practice. I tend to see the child with the whole family at the first appointment. It's what is most suitable for your child.
What is not offered?
This is not a service which offers a diagnostic or formal assessment for children whose parents have concerns related to their child/s observed difficulties in social communication and interaction
However, as early recognition of differences is so important I would hope to quietly support parents’ own understanding and ways of responding helpfully, to test a child’s needs in this area.
Why don't you offer a diagnostic assessment?
Diagnostic assessment to identify neurodiversity at a level to be named as 'autism' is advised to be undertaken within a multi-disciplinary team e.g. Speech & Language Therapist for language/communication skills, and Occupational Therapist for sensory differences/needs.
As a guide for parents/other professionals, I would ask the parent/s to complete a Strengths & Difficulties Questionnaire to advise on general mental health of your child/young person and the Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ) which helps to identify areas of neuro-diverse skills/behaviours.
